Milk Oligosaccharides Improve IBS Symptoms

Written by Yourway | November 15, 2019

A study presented at the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) 2019 Annual Scientific Meeting demonstrated that treatment with human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) can improve the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) within four weeks. As HMOs cannot be metabolized by humans but can nourish elements of the gut microbiome, the findings suggest a role for gut bacteria in the beneficial effects of HMOs, and potentially in the etiology of IBS itself. As microbiome-based therapies show a lot of promise as the next therapeutic frontier for a range of diseases, Yourway is already updating our offering to support the unique supply chain needs for these therapies.
