A leading international pharmaceutical company had a large, critical shipment of safety equipment to transport from the UK to the US. Though the shipment only consisted of 7 pallets, its weight total was 8160 kg, or nearly 18,000 pounds. The pharma company contracted another transport group to carry out this request. However, after getting the shipment to Luxembourg for a connecting flight, the contracted company struggled to secure a flight willing to take on such a large and heavy cargo — leaving the shipment essentially stranded. With time running out, the pharma company turned to Yourway to get the job done.
A complex challenge
Yourway was brought in with only four days left to get this complex shipment across the Atlantic Ocean to its destination in time. Not only was the shipment so prohibitively large that it was difficult to find an aircraft with room in its charter to fit it, but also, the available cargo aircrafts that would be able to handle it did not belong to companies with which Yourway already had a business relationship. Together, this meant Yourway would have to conduct a difficult search and reach an agreement on a tight timeline.
Finding a way forward
Within 24 hours, the Yourway team found a cargo aircraft that was willing to offload its existing cargo to accommodate our client’s large shipment. The team worked with the original transport group and airlines to release the shipment into Yourway’s custody, and managed customs clearance for entry into the US. Further, the team stayed in touch with the airline and handling agent to ensure that everything went according to plan, and communicated frequently with the client to keep them up to date.
However, due to scheduling complications, if the shipment was flown directly to the nearest airport to its destination in New Jersey, it would arrive too late. The Yourway team determined that it would be faster to route the shipment through a Chicago airport, to be driven the rest of the way. Thanks to Yourway’s agile transport capabilities, trucks capable of handling this large shipment were ready and able to drive it roughly 800 miles to its ultimate destination.
A timely arrival
All parts of the shipment arrived on schedule. The client was very happy with the completion of the delivery, as well as Yourway’s consistent communication throughout the process to keep them apprised of the shipment’s status. All told, this situation was an excellent example of Yourway’s commitment to getting the job done no matter what it took, along with its ability to follow through on that promise even in challenging scenarios.
